Day by day program outline
A private transfer from Cagliari airport or downtown will take you to your accommodation in Nebida on south west coast.
After being introduced to your two-wheeled travel companion, our local staff will give you an overview on your journey of discovery in this sensational corner of Sardinia. Overnight.
The first day starts with a descent along the panoramic road, offering stunning sceneries of the coast facing the iconic Pan di Zucchero rock. You will reach sea level at Fontanamare beach and keep pedaling towards Portoscuso a village founded in 16th century by a community active in tuna fishing. A one hour ferry crossing will take you to Carloforte, the picturesque village on San Pietro island where a traditional 'tonnara' (tuna fishing and processing plant) is still in operation following ancient rituals and where the very best tuna fish in Mediterranean will tickle your taste. Overnight. (total distance 24 km + ferry)
In San Pietro island you shouldn't miss a loop in the former salt pans area, a real paradise for bird watchers; here pink flamingos, herons and many other sea birds gather to nest and enjoying the mild climate. Another ferry crossing will take you and your bike to Calasetta on Sant’Antioco the fourth biggest italian island, linked to Sardinia by an isthmus surrounded by a wide lagoon Overnight. (total distance 20 km + ferry)
Smooth hills and vast plains of Sulcis region are the idyllic choreography of your itinerary through vineyards and olive groves; in this area excellent wines and olive oil have been produced for ages, so food explorers will have some serious exercise to do. On the way, we suggest a break at Tratalias for a visit at Santa Maria di Monserrato cathedral, an interesting example of romanesque architecture in Sardinia built in 13th century. Overnight at Sant'Anna Arresi. (total distance 40 km)
Your journey takes you today on the south coast, where some of most seductive sandy beaches of the island are nestled between unspoiled natural landscape; imposing cliffs such as Malfatano Cape with its 16th Century tower and Spartivento Cape with its lighthouse, are the landmarks showing you the way to Chia where you'll spend the night. (total distance 36 km)
Before heading to the last town of your itinerary, you should not miss the most iconic beaches of south Sardinia: the idyllic Tuerredda bay with its turquoise water and the charming white sand stripe at Santa Margherita.
Along the coastal route you will reach Pula for overnight. (total distance 23 km)
After a stroll in the lovely village, we'd like to suggest you a loop in the captivating countryside around Pula and then proceed towards the coast to admire Nora, ancient phoenician and roman settlement, surely one of richest and most scenographic archaeological areas in Mediterranean. Lazy ones can of course choose to spend a day by the sea and be pampered by its delighting atmospheres. Overnight.
After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to your bike and jump on your private transfer to Cagliari airport.
