The day is focused on the fascinating history of mining, for centuries one of the main activities in south-east Sardinia. Our all terrain Land Rover will take you on a journey in time and space: we start from the ancient mining sites dated back to 1300, then admire the bizarre castle-like architecture of Santa Barbara dwell; a walk in a mine dug in 1800 allows to touch and feel the harsh working conditions daily faced by miners and to discover and the rich mineralogical features of these grounds. Asproni ghost village is an interesting example of mining settlement active between end of 1800 and first half of 1900 and an important industrial archaeology site. Last but not least, we'll drive up to San Giovanni hill, where to enjoy a panoramic view on the coast. During the itinerary, your host will please your taste with a good amount of yummy products selected from local specialities (total duration 4/5 hours). Rest of the day at leisure and overnight.
On board our Land Rover we reach Domusnovas town and then proceed along off-road tracks and fordings up to the beginning of the trail; the car will wait for us while we walk through a demanding stony ground to reach the base of Piscina Irgas waterfall, where a 30 meters water wall creates a natural pool where to enjoy pleasant refreshing moments (the amount of water depends on the season, so the best periods are spring and autumn, when waterfalls can show their scenographic power). A further short trek takes to your picnic lunch, made up with the shepherds food: sausage, ham, pecorino cheese, typical carasau bread and of course sardinian wine (duration 3/4 hours).
Breakfast.
