Food hunters will be getting their exercise when joining this mouth watering program. We start with a visit of Nuoro, the capital of Barbagia region where authentic Sardinia has its roots; you will wander with Gaveena’s local fellows between tiny markets and small shops where to enjoy local handicraft together with genuine, surprising and sometimes strong tastes of a rich food culture. Naturally wine and winemaking is an important part of this savoury experience that will take you also in Mamoiada, where sardinian red wine Cannonau has been produced for centuries and where the iconic mask of Mamuthones was born. And finally, the best way to cosy up with locals: learn how to prepare and cook local recipes and of course share and comment the results during a typical several-courses dinner.

Day by day program outline

Day
1
In the morning arrival at your accommodation. After a good lunch in a local trattoria, in the afternoon a walk downtown Nuoro will take you to discover the charming workshops where traditional carpets, iron objects, jewelry and baskets are crafted using ancient techniques. (duration 4 hours). Overnight.

Day
2
Excursion at Mamoiada and visit to a local craftman creating amazing carnival masks carved in wood and to meet a genuine Mamuthone, surely the most iconic traditional costume. The warm and friendly atmosphere of a local winery will be the perfect setting for your lunch combined with wine tasting (duration 6 hours). Overnight.

3
In the morning you'll have the chance to stroll around Nuoro by your own and discover its lovely hidden corners described by sardinian writer Grazia Deledda, Nobel prize for literature in 1926. Afternoon will be spent in the kitchen where Gaveena's fellows will teach you how to prepare traditional sardinian food; naturally the cooking course will be followed by a traditional dinner in a friendly atmosphere (duration 6 hours). Overnight.
