Day by day program outline
Arrival at your accommodation in the morning. Your first handshake with Cagliari has to be impressive, so your sardinian mates will take you to 'Sella del Diavolo' the saddle-shaped natural monument offering breathtaking views on our scenographic Capital city and a comprehensive view on the island's southern coast. During the soft trekking you'll be surrounded by scents and colors of endemic species of mediterranean flora, admire idyllic landscapes but also find fossils and archeological relics witnessing the prehistorical human settlements in this area. Since sardinian hospitality is strongly related to food, of course you will have time to enjoy a break with tasty bites of our local products (duration 3/4 hours). Overnight.
Cagliari is built on seven hills, so a walk around the city gets to be a sort of urban trekking. Gaveena's local folks will trek with you across the history of our Capital: starting from the ruins of roman empire age, such as the amphitheatre and Tigellio's villa, we'll get into the medieval part with baroque San Michele church. Another important venue is the church of Sant'Efisio, representing the religious soul of the city and starting point of the procession held on may 1st every year since 1657. These churches are built over a wide underground structure, probably and antique prison. The last stage of our urban trekking will bring you into contemporary Cagliari and let you admire the iconic sculpture of Costantino Nivola, sardinian sculptor appreciated worldwide; last but not least, a healthy lunch in a local trattoria will invite you to enjoy the captivating tastes created by our long history (duration 4 hours).
Did you know that Cagliari urban area hosts one of the most important wetlands in Europe? Spread on around 1600 hectares, Molentargius natural reserve is the nesting area of thousands of pink flamingos and over 200 species of coastal birds. In the past was used a saltpan and it's been turned into a park in late nineties, so it offers some interesting examples of industrial archaeology and art nouveau buildings as well.
We'll get into this unique environment by bike and we'll enjoy an heartwarming itinerary through another surprising side of our Capital city; some tasty local products will calm your hunger down during our ride (duration 3 hours). Overnight.
